History Fact: Ella Fitzgerald, also known as "Lady Ella" and the "First Lady of Song", is considered one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century. Ella's first love was dance. At the age of 15 she became a contestant in amateur night at the Apollo as a dancer. Once on stage, she got cold feet and began to sing her favorite song. Her unknown singing skills help her win the grand prize and launched her career in music. In her career, she recorded 70 albums and more than 2,000 songs.

BRICK CITY DOCUMENTARY (Airing 9/21-9/25 @ 10pm)

BRICK CITY

Created and directed by the award-winning filmmakers Mark Benjamin and Marc Levin, BRICK CITY, is a five-part documentary series that captures the daily drama of a community striving to become a better, safer, stronger place to live. Against great odds, Newark’s citizens and its Mayor, Cory A. Booker, fight to raise the city out of nearly a half century of violence, poverty and corruption.
